GAIN ALTITUDE WITH DELL’S LATITUDE XT

Dell, one of the world’s known producers of premier computing machines, has just recently unleashed Latitude XT, a 3.5 pound tablet with more than 12 inches of beautiful screen, and an integrated touchscreen technology that is unheard of in its contemporaries.

Essentially, Dell’s Latitude XT is a business machine, geared for users who need a wide screen, high resolution and high speed computing delivered for a semi-fixed working station. Because of the weight impediment, the tablet is not really meant for daily commuters; however, it might be a good idea to invest in one if you rely on heavy computer work but you’re always going from one company branch to another. Ideal for executives, the sub four pound tablet is a heavyweight that reckons with the top models in its category.

Dell Latitude XT
The lowdown

One of the most interesting features of this new Dell tablet is the screen; literally, because the 12 inch screen now accepts input via touch- something that others in the tablet category have not ventured into. For users who are into computing and use graphs often, a touchscreen interface would definitely boost the usability of the tablet.

For all its formidable size, the Latitude XT is considerably more power-friendly and more power-efficient than its older counterparts because Dell has made it a point to introduce low-power processors. This is a notable feature, since most tablets are known for power hungry processors that so to speak, “run at full steam”.

The specifications for the processors available are the following:

• 1 Ghz Intel Core Duo Solo
• 1 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 Duo

The Latitude XT can be upgraded to support up to 3 gigabytes of random access memory or RAM. As for the kind of storage that this tablet can handle, the baseline is 40 gigabytes to around 120 gigabytes. For those who want figures that are between these two extremes, solid state hard drives are up for grabs in 32 and 64 gigabyte increments, respectively.

The power of the Altitude XT

For many tablet users (especially the ones who are used to inexpensive, non-branded assemblies), the battery life is usually one of the sore points of having a heavy laptop especially with a screen as wide as the Altitude XT.

Dell has remedied this problem by integrating a 9-cell battery that would provide enough steam for this tablet to work overtime- for up to more than ten hours a day. That kind of power is unheard of in other energy-efficient laptops, which can only last for as long as four hours at a time.

While it is possible to install other operating systems into the Latitude XT (Linux Ubuntu, and so on), Dell recommends the latest versions of Windows Vista for this particular machine. Since it is designed to be a business-oriented machine, Altitude XT can handle most memory intensive tasks that are associated with the following operating systems:

1. Windows Vista Business Edition
2. Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

These two operating systems are known for being hardware, software and memory intensive, perfect for a Latitude XT laptop.

LENOVO IDEAPAD U110 REVIEW – COMPLETE STYLE REDEFINED

The Lenovo IdeaPad U110 is the newest inclusion to the IdeaPad family and has freshly been gathering a lot of interests. Lenovo might be renowned for the ThinkPad line of laptops, but the majority of standard consumers dont find the customary style spec of the ThinkPad line to be very striking.

Design

The IdeaPad U110 is astonishingly solid in requisites of fabricate superiority. The aluminum etches flaunt cover and a complete magnesium aluminum framework that provide both potency and trivial. You can bear down on the unit as hard as you would like on the body of the laptop and it simply will not bend. Like the ThinkPad linage, the IdeaPad U110 is intended for (unintentional) cruelty and drops, and were presuming that the U110 might be the most rugged notebook in the IdeaPad lineup.

Performance
Lets be reasonable, the IdeaPad U110 was not build to participate with your desktop encumbered with the power of a quad core processor. Thin travel laptops like the U110 utilize low voltage processors to marmalade power and shrink high temperature build-up. The IdeaPad U110 utilizes an Intel 1.60GHz Core 2 Duo L7500 processor thats quite proficient of successive office applications and performing any universal web linked errands, but will not dish up fighting fit for 3D graphics applications or any profound duty interpretation tasks.

Similarly, the Intel X3100 incorporated graphics will permit you to engage in recreation for a little light games, perhaps even Half Life 2 on low setting, but in all-purpose youll fancy to fasten to e-mail, web browsing, Office and photo editing errands. Thats sufficient for the majority of standard customers ... predominantly if you previously have a prevailing desktop.

The hard disk storage space could have supplemented concert if it was a 5400rpm or higher rpm rated drive. Better still; a wonderful fast SSD would have prearranged the U110 a little supplementary "snappiness." Regrettably, the slow 4200rpm hard drive on the U110 only prepared the system that much slower at times of daily use.
The 11.1" WXGA (1366 x 768) display on the U110 is pleasant and vivid, but suffers from a noteworthy degree of "graininess."

The keyboard fitted on the IdeaPad U110 has nil flex and brilliant key travel with hushed presses. Lenovo has additional a lustrous "piano paint" finish to the keys so that they dont wear off and obtain all gleaming over time. Lenovo provisions both the regular 4-cell battery power pack as well as the 7-cell extended life battery for the U110. The 4 – cell promises 2 hours and the 7-cells packs punch for 6 hours usage.

Overall
On the whole the notebook is so loaded with the features that are so specific of the Lenovo brand. The brand image is clearly carried forward with loads of personal interest and care. U110 is an overall package of pride & integrity.

Pros
+ Built quality is really good.
+ Battery choices are well sorted.
+ Well laid out keyboard.

Cons
- Graphics could have been better.
- SSD could have been a good choice.

ACER ASPIRE ONE AOA 150 1784 QUICK REVIEW

The Ultimate Design - Acer Aspire One AOA150-1784

If you are someone who prefers to use a compact, light-weight Netbook as your primary laptop, you won’t find a more suitable option than the Acer Aspire One AOA150 – 1784! Weighing just 2.1lbs, it also makes for an ideal travel mate or a handy mobile connector for business professionals. Students unwilling to spend too much but not wanting to compromise on storage will also find it attractive. With a starting price of $329 you’d find it hard to get a better deal. Let me fill you in on the details and you’ll see what I mean.

In terms of the processor, there’s nothing new on offer but that’s not unexpected. The AOA 150 – 1784 comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor N270 with 1 GB RAM and a whopping storage size – for a netbook -- of 160GB and 1GB RAM (512 MB onboard/ 512MB SODIMM Slot).

Acer InviLink 802. 11b/g wireless LAN and the Acer Crystal Eye Web cam, include the other features. Windows XP Home Edition with SP3 comes installed making it easy to accomplish everyday tasks at home and work.

The chassis comes in a glossy Sapphire blue and the build quality is solid. Plastics have been used but they are sturdy and don’t exhibit any flex.
The 8.9 – inch LED back lit WSVGA display comes with a native resolution of 1024 x 600. It provides reasonably good viewing at horizontal and vertical angles but minor glare issues are evidenced outdoors. Slightly annoying, also, is the manner in which the display seems to attract finger prints in no time.

Just below the display are the integrated speakers that are surprisingly good for that size though they can’t be expected to fill up large spaces. It holds up well while watching video clips and browsing the internet without compromising on clarity. The keyboard which is the most distinguishing feature of all Netbooks, extends from end to end in an attempt to provide space between keys and minimize typos by swiping the neighboring letter. However, if this is your primary laptop, it’s advisable that you get yourself an external keyboard (acer provides an external USB Mouse). The touch pad is of a decent size and responds well though scrolling could need a bit of getting used to.

Interfaces on the sides include 3 USB ports, a VGA port, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, an Ethernet port, and AC adapter connector and a Kensington lock slot. Card readers include a Multi-in-one card reader, an SD card reader a MultiMediaCard (MMC), Reduced size MultiMedia card, Memory stick, Memory stick Pro and an XD picture card.

The lack of a CD/DVD drive and Bluetooth are significant cons. Short battery life (2.6 hours) in spite the presence of a six-cell battery, is another noticeable downside.

There’s no doubt the Acer Aspire One AOA150-1784 doesn’t offer cutting-edge technology but its ultra portability, remarkable storage size and affordable price definitely make it hard to resist.

Price: Approx. $300
