35 HOUR BATTERY LIFE ON THE HORIZON

batteryindevelopment If there is one thing that has been the heart of almost every laptop and netbook user its the question as to how they can get more juice out of their systems. Yes you always have the option of carrying a few extra batteries (if you dont use a Mac) or go with an outrageously big nine or twelve cell battery.

But thanks to some researches in South Korea led by Professor Cho Jae-phil at Hanyang University a new type of lithium battery that in theory can last eight times longer than traditional batteries. So that means that your average 5 hour battery could last as long as 35 hours.

Now before you get all excited about paying some serious bucks for this one let me remind you that the technology is still in development and will take about 5 years before you see them popping up in laptops near you. But on the other hand you are welcome to drop by your local Best Buy and buy an extended battery on Black Friday.

BATTERY SHORTAGE TO HIT BACK

laptop batteryThe Taiwan-based firm’s principal financial wonk, Jackie Ding, told official sources yesterday that notebook battery supply may strike its targets in the 2nd quarter of 2009. Simplo had formerly projected the scarcity to end by the 1st quarter of next year. In May agreement notebook PC producer Compal Electronics Inc was enforced to scale back its Q2 consignment growth foretell, blaming a deficiency of batteries. Previously this year most important computer vendors together with Hewlett-Packard and Dell, protested about the crook in the supply chain, which was sourced in part by a fire on 3 March at South Koreas LG Chem industrial unit, where some notebook batteries are feigned.
